James Parker
James Parker is the dad and home cook behind Recipes Dad. He writes practical, family-friendly recipes with clear steps, everyday ingredients and honest tips for busy weeknights.
Hi, I’m James. For years I was the takeout-and-microwave kind of dad. That changed the evening my daughter, then seven, asked why we never ate “real food”. I started with the basics — scrambled eggs, simple pasta, roast chicken — burned a few dinners along the way, and slowly learned what makes a recipe easy to follow on a busy evening.
Recipes Dad is where I share the dishes our family keeps coming back to, written the way I wish recipes had been written for me: short ingredient lists, clear steps, and the small details (how brown is “golden”, when to add the salt) that decide whether dinner works the first time.
I’m not a trained chef, and I don’t pretend to be. What I care about is food that tastes good, comes together on a weeknight and brings everyone to the table. If a recipe here doesn’t work for you, tell me in the notes or by email — that feedback is how the recipes get better.
How I write a recipe
Everyday ingredients
If you can’t find it at a regular supermarket, it gets a substitute in the notes.
Steps you can follow
Each step does one thing and tells you what it should look like when it’s done.
Honest timing
Prep and cook times include the chopping, not just the minutes on the stove.
Safe and clear
Doneness temperatures for meat and fish, allergy notes on every card, and nutrition marked as an estimate.
What you’ll find here
Weeknight dinners
Chicken, pasta, one-pot and sheet-pan meals that land on the table in under an hour.
Comfort food
Casseroles, soups, chowders and bakes — the dishes that taste like home.
Kid-friendly cooking
Meals picky eaters actually ask for, with vegetables that don’t start a negotiation.
Baking for the family
Cookies, bars, cakes and no-bake desserts for school bake sales and Sunday afternoons.
